Joan, I am not convinced that buying more microprocessors will buy the casual home user much, but I would make my decision based on price. I would try to get as much bang for the buck as I could. I think you'll find quads out there that are no more expensive than duals, and so in that case I'd go for the quad. Maybe in the life of this new machine I am buying the software guys will catch up with the hardware guys and the quad will make a difference.
I would also want to know what the quad vs. dual would do to battery use. With a laptop the longer you can get a battery to last w/o recharging, the better.
